Winter Growth has a long history of providing excellent services to the seniors in our community. Caregivers and participants both benefit tremendously from the care, support, education and love found at Winter Growth. As a caregiver, you get support and a break from the everyday challenges of being a full-time caregiver while you know your loved one is well cared for and is having fun in a safe environment.

My husband and I moved to Silver Spring last June. We moved from Oxford, Ohio, where he had retired from teaching philosophy at Miami University of Ohio. He was rather suddenly afflicted with a Parkinson’s related dementia. That, combined with the isolation from the pandemic and the need to sell our large house and move nearer to family here was terrifying, overwhelming, almost impossible for me to deal with. My daughter and son-in-law stepped up with so much emotional and physical support. I cannot begin to describe their loving, active concern. The medical care here has been outstanding here in every way. We soon realized I would need intermittent caregiving support for me and my husband. My daughter could not stay with me 24/7. Dementia is indeed a 36 hour non-stop source of stress for the primary caregiver despite how patient and loving she or he may be. My daughter did some research and found a facility nearby. The program was called “Winter Growth”. They had an affordable day program and we visited. It is a wonderful place. My paranoid, agitated, formerly brilliant husband has flourished there as best as he could possibly flourish given the dreadful disease he has. He attends three to four times a week from ten in the morning until two in the afternoon. The place is so sunny, with activities taking place in rooms of different colors. He can wander about at will if he wants. There are OT and PT programs available, music, word games, so many staff interacting with the clients all the time. There is warmth and compassion and good humor. Young interns, enlightened administrators. They give us life every single day. They are life givers, gentle caring heroes. Whomever blesses, bless them.

Winter Growth in Olney. MD is a caring provider for my husband who is affected by dementia. Three days a week he is stimulated and has companionship with similar attendees. His meals are nutritish and flavorful. There is even a pet that he enjoys. I am so happy to have such a facility to care for him. Lenore Broughton

My mom attended the day care program for over 6 years, and now her new home is at Winter Growth. My mom says everyone is spoiling her. She is happy, and I am happy knowing she is getting such wonderful care. Everyone is so supportive of my mom and me.
