We are absolutely thrilled with our experience at Powell Valley Living. From the moment we toured the community, it was clear this is a place that truly cares—about dignity, comfort, and quality of life. The grounds are beautiful, peaceful, and well maintained with lovely landscaping, sunrooms, a gazebo, and inviting outdoor spaces. Inside, every common area—from the library and lounges to the dining room—is warm, welcoming, and clean. The staff consistently exceed expectations. They are compassionate, professional, and genuinely caring. They take time to know each resident and treat them with respect and kindness. The team always goes above and beyond to ensure everyone feels safe, comfortable, and well cared for—not just physically, but emotionally too. The care itself is excellent—helpful, attentive, always available when needed. The assisted living and memory care programs are well thought out, and there are wonderful social and activity options. From meals prepared with care to special events, everything is done with a focus on enriching the residents’ lives. It’s obvious the leadership and staff believe in what they do, and it shows in how happy and well treated the residents are. If you’re looking for an assisted living or memory care community that balances high-quality care, beautiful surroundings, and a respectful, family-oriented atmosphere, you really can’t go wrong with Powell Valley Living. We are grateful to have found this special place.

God bless the staff that work there. They did an outstanding job with our mom. She spent two years at Powell Valley Memory Care and the staff treated her with dignity, love, and friendship. She passed away, with our family around her last week. All the staff came in paid their respects, shed tears, told stories and expressed real fondness for our mom. When we had to transport her remains, the staff lined the halls to say goodbye.

Review of Powell Valley Assisted Living (Not Memory Care) Our family placed my sister at Powell Valley Assisted Living after she suffered a debilitating stroke in 2022. We chose this facility because it appeared clean and professional, and we were told there would be medical oversight. Unfortunately, what we experienced over the next couple of years was deeply upsetting and unacceptable. To be clear, this review is about Powell Valley Assisted Living only. We had no experience with the Memory Care Community, which is located in a separate building. We were initially told there was a doctor on staff, but that turned out to be misleading. The person overseeing medical matters had a doctorate, but he was not a licensed medical doctor. He refused to manage my sister's critical prescriptions-especially her long-term oxycodone for severe pain-and insisted her outside physician handle it, despite her being in their care full time. Medication management was consistently poor. There were repeated delays and missed doses. At one point, her medication was even stolen, and there was no accountability. Staff turnover was high, and untrained employees were training new hires. Medication changes from hospice were not being communicated, or faxes were ignored-once simply because there was no paper in the machine and no one noticed. Even when she was placed on hospice, the disorganization continued. Staff were confused about how often she could receive her pain medication. I had to call hospice myself and stand there on speaker phone to get clarity. Watching someone you love suffer in pain while staff delay care is devastating. Other issues included: - Personal belongings went missing, including six of her dresses. - Her laundry was mixed up with other residents' clothes. - Food quality declined sharply depending on who was cooking-at times, it was unrecognizable. - At the end of her life, when she could no longer feed herself, we were never informed-and she was left without help. One day I raised concern about the fact that her medications were not being given on time, and I asked if anyone was overseeing this. The staff member's response was, "We can't really do that-we have over 90 residents we give meds to." That kind of response summed up the lack of oversight and accountability we experienced throughout her stay. Families place loved ones in assisted living facilities hoping for compassionate, consistent care and peace of mind. But without constant family oversight, your loved one at Powell Valley Assisted Living may not receive the care they need-or deserve. I would not recommend this facility to anyone. -Christine

At A Senior Living Facility Like Powell Valley, One Would Expect To Be Treated With Truth & Compassion. Think Again! When Power & Profit Are Put Above Needs Of Residents & Untruth Is Spoken More Often Than Not, It Should Send An Alarm! I Could Write A Book Of What I Have Experienced As A Resident. Let Me Give One Example: At 7:40am In Early May, I Was Walking Down The Hall On My Way To Breakfast. I Saw A Woman Slumped Over In A Chair While A Med Tech & Caregiver Laughed & Played On Their Phones Nearby. I Had Never Seen The Lady Before. I Touched Her On The Arm & Asked—Are You Alright? Lady: I Think I Had Another Stroke. Me: Another Stroke? Do You Need Help? Lady: Yes, Please. Turning To Med Tech & Aide, Who Were Near Enough To Hear, I Asked: Can You Help This Lady? Med Tech: Do It Yourself! Take Her Down To Dining Room. But She Has A Walker. She Might Fall. I Might Fall With Her. Med Tech: You’ve Got This! With Great Effort It Took 5-6 Minutes As The Lady Shuffled Along. Twice She Nearly Fell. I Steered Her Toward DR. On The Way She Told Me Her Name & That She Was A New Resident. Alarmed By What Had Happened, I Called Front Desk At 9:04am. No Answer. Called 5 More Times Until Receptionist Answered At 9:25. Oops, She Laughed: I Forgot To Turn On My Phone. I Explained The Situation & Asked Her To Write It Down. Please Call The Lady’s Family. She Might Need To Go To A Doctor Or Hospital. I Was Assured The Family Would Be Notified. Before Eating Dinner, I Walked To Front Desk & Asked Again Of The Receptionist— What Did You Write Down? Reception: I Wrote Nothing. Me: Was Her Family Notified? Reception: I Asked Aide To Call. Me: Which Aide? Receptionist: The Med Tech. Me: But She’s The One Who Wouldn’t Help The Lady In The First Place. Perhaps You Should Tell The ED. Reception: I Don’t Know If She’s Here. I Was Totally Frustrated By The Ineptness & Unprofessionalism Of Powell Valley. Several Days Later A Member Of The Staff Told Me ED Had Sent An Email To All Staff Members & Med Techs About Me. What? About Me? What In The World! After Another Staff Member Told Me The Same Thing, I Asked For A Copy, Which I Now Have In My Possession. Since Sending A Rude Email To Others Is Known As Libel & Against State Laws Of Oregon, I Choose Not To Attach A Photo Of It. The Lies & Disparaging Tone Of The Email Shocked Me! How Could Anyone Write Such Untruth. The Med Tech Had Lied. She Claimed That I Offered To Take My “Friend” To The Dining Room. Not True! I’d Never Seen Her Before EVER! The Email Claimed I Was Afraid Of Helping The Lady; I Might Have Another Stroke? Not True! I’ve Never Had A Stroke In My Life Nor Been Afraid Of Having A Stroke. The Email Mentioned My Name 5 Times, But Never Once The Names Of The Med Tech Or Caregiver. After My Name Was The Word: UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! With 21 Exclamation Marks. Anyone Who Has Knowledge Of Human Relations Knows That When 2 People Have Different Opinions Of The Same Incident HR Asks Each Person Privately About Her Truth. No One Asked Me Anything Before The Email Was Sent! Totally Unlawful. We Are Considering A Lawsuit For Defamation Of Character. My Friends Call Powell Valley- Assisted Dying! As Other Reviews Stated: THE STATE SHOULD SHUT POWELL VALLEY DOWN! Fortunately, I Left Powell Valley On June 27, 2024 Never To Return. JOY! Now I Happily Live Back In My Home Town Where I Take My Own Meds & Showers. You See, I Never Needed Assisted Living In The First Place. This Is The Truth! In The Words Of ‘The Battle Hymn Of The Republic’ “His Truth Is Marching On. Glory, Glory Hallelujah!” ————————————————————————— This is an accurate account of my best friend’s experience which she related to me as it occurred. I felt if she stayed at Powell Valley that she would likely not survive. I’m greatly relieved that she has moved out & is now doing very well!

I don't write reviews often but Powell Valley deserves mine...I would give 10 stars if 10 were available. My dear Mom has been in and out of a few rehab facilities over the last two years. Mom got to the point where she needed full time assisted living so I looked around for her. We checked out about 10 different assisted living locations in Gresham, NE and SE Portland before we found Powell Valley. Wow...The place is immaculate top to bottom, the residents really seem to enjoy living there AND equally important is that the staff obviously loves working there. You can just feel it. In my experience, you don't come across that very often. What I was most impressed with was the staff...all of them. I must of met and interacted with 10 or 12 employees from the head administrator to the dear ladies that brought Mom food and helped her with her personal needs. Truly a class act place and the fees are very fair. Do yourself a favor and at least take a tour and meet these wonderful people. They have been a Godsend. Thank you Powell Valley
