Our mother is a resident and we are so grateful to the team from Heddy Cortes (Director of Nursing) to her entire team (including Keisha, Stephanie, Kathy, Janna, Phanh, John) and the entire care support team and managers Sandra, Jeff, Courtney & Jennifer who have been so kind, patient & accommodating in every way. It's a beautiful setting but it is the people that truly set it apart. Mahalo nui loa.

One Year Anniversary as of August 2023:
This updates my review below written after two months of being a resident. My glowing remarks remain unchanged. The update is that, while COVID prevention is still well-handled, now that things are more open, Plaza has expanded its social activities. Off site escorted visits to affordable restaurants and other fun places like the zoo are part of the routine. The Plaza at Moanalua is a great place to live.
2022 Two Month Review:
Now that my mother has been a resident for over two months at the Plaza at Moanalua, we are ready to let others know how truly wonderful it is.
First, the people are fantastic. They see each resident as an individual within a warm, safe, and fun neighborhood. For example, while Mom is an independent senior, she gets very nervous about blood pressure monitors, but she needs to keep track because her blood pressure runs high, so without asking, the nursing staff takes it in the evening in her own apartment using a monitor device that she finds to be more comfortable. The friendly maintenance and housekeeping staff work to quickly respond to a variety of requests via apartment call "buttons" or a stop at the concierge desk. For example, when the Spectrum TV went out, the call button brought up someone right away to help with the reset. When a housekeeper noticed me in the parking lot unloading stuff to hand carry up to Mom, she got a cart and took me up the service elevator. When the staff noticed that a few people like to sew and could benefit from a large table for fabrics, one was placed in the common area. Mom loves how the housekeeping staff keeps her apartment clean while respecting her habits of casual clutter.
The dining areas are lovely. The food - the chef, kitchen staff, and dining room staff are terrific. There is something for every taste and Mom's meals are now way more healthy and enjoyable. I thought Mom would want groceries to supplement, but the only thing in her fridge are leis ;-)
The building and grounds are charming. There is a small park by the building with shady seats and a quiet neighborhood for those who like to take walks. Mom isn't a "walker," but she does enjoy watching the birds in the morning and taking a short walk on the Plaza's private path. Mom also enjoys the crafts, musical performances, and salon services, especially pedicures.
The central location makes it possible for the shuttle to serve all parts of the island for fun and practical trips. Recently, Mom had a dental emergency and the wonderful concierge, shuttle driver, and others worked together to fit in a trip for me to meet her at the dentist. Mom loves that the Clinical Lab truck comes every Friday so she doesn't have to travel to a lab and wait in a queue.
Keep in mind that the monthly cost covers food, air conditioning and other utilities, transportation, and 24 hour care that benefits even the most independent senior. My husband and I can travel with peace of mind and visit Mom just for pleasure.
After checking other good options, it was clear that the Plaza at Moanalua is a great value now and as her needs increase.
