"The staff was overall very kind and understanding, and they tried to help advocate for the proper care for my father. But every decision has to be approved by Rosie, the owner. She was the decision maker and she was not willing to admit that things were not right. The pain management was not working, my mother had to wait as long as 4-5 days to receive meds, and Rosie tried to dictate how often my father’s malignant ascites should be drained based on old discharge instructions. The nurse was literally reusing draining bottles by dumping the contents into the toilet and then reconnecting it to my dad’s drain. My father’s pain was never fully managed properly. Rosie, the owner, told us that is because my mother, who cares for my father 24/7, was “not communicative” enough. This is NOT true. We literally only called Rosie twice EVER, for help, and she was not only unhelpful (did not provide any viable solutions) but also yelled at me on the phone. So on top of having to deal with losing the patriarch of our family, we also had to argue with our hospice provider for basic care, and deal with a combative attitude from the owner. In the end, Rosie had our nurse text us that we were fired from care. Instead of taking away some of our stress as a family, she only added to it. I was shell shocked when she dropped us — even though I already started looking for another hospice. She could have given us at least some notice. Instead, she had our nurse TEXT us that my father’s care was canceled. Please, do yourself a favor: go to ANY other reputable hospice."
