HOSPICE OF THE CALUMET AREA

The Hospice of the Calumet Area provides exceptional hospice care and support for families during life’s most difficult moments. The staff is compassionate, professional, and truly dedicated to patient comfort. They also host meaningful community events like the annual butterfly release. Our son won a prize one year and still talks about how special it was—he looks forward to going again! They also organize a local market to raise funds for hospice services, showing their deep commitment to the community. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality hospice care in Northwest Indiana.

Hospice of the Calumet Area has Angels on Earth working for them. The care they provided to my beautiful mother-in-law was inspirational. Recently, we also used the palliative program for my mom. They provided exceptional resources and guided me and my sisters and gave us the confidence to ask the right questions. God bless everybody at Hospice of the Calumet Area.

My mother was fortunate enough to have spent her final days in the comfort provided by the staff and volunteers at The Riley Residence. The staff were kind, compassionate and attentive to the needs of my mother and our family. I will be forever grateful for the care she received there.

Hospice took great care of my grandparents, highly recommend them for all your needs.

The facility is absolutely beautiful, however, that does not justify the rudeness of some of the nursing staff. When I gave explicit instructions NOT to mediate my father, they did. Not only did they medicate him when he didn't need it, they also gave him a medication that should NOT have been given to an ESRD patient because it is entirely too hard to process through the kidneys. The nursing staff basically put my father in a comatose state and he was completely unresponsive 16 hours later. I did remove him from the facility and transported my father to a hospital for further evaluation. The hospital had to administer narcan to bring him out of his comatose state. Ultimately, my father was placed on in-patient hospice while in the hospital and the place was AMAZING! I couldn't have asked for a nicer, more caring group of people at the new hospice. I would not take anyone to Riley House unless you just want them doped up. The nursing staff should have known the proper medication to give and the proper dosage; the physicians that treated my father were not happy at what Riley House administered. When I called to talk to the office staff, they were completely rude and uncaring. They made me feel like I did something wrong. It was all about them and not my father nor the family.
