I have had the pleasure of working with Heartland Hospice for more than 8 years, but it wasn’t until recently that I had a personal experience. My mom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in May and by October it was determined to be stage IV. She decided she did not want to go through additional palliative chemo to feel awful for the time she has left. Her oncologist recommended hospice as there are no curative options. Our experience with Heartland Hospice has been outstanding. She is currently living with the best possible quality of life at this point, able to still go and do things as she feels up to, spend time with family and has the support she needs on the hard days. The staff is responsive, attentive, knowledgeable, and compassionate. They explain everything clearly, respond quickly to our needs, and ensure our loved one is comfortable and has what she needs at all times. We couldn’t ask for better care. Highly recommend Heartland Hospice.

When my family needed help, they were there in all the stages. We didn't even know the stages that we were going to go through, but they did, and they had the right people there at the right time. We didn't always know what to ask for, but they already knew the things we needed and helped us to understand what those needs were going to be. They offered the different options for us. Help with the medications especially when my dad had trouble with one and needed a different kind of medication. Help with physical care, that last day with the aid washing his feet. Help with emotions and understanding that the hard things we were going to experience were still going to be worth it because we were going to be with our loved one. They gave us dignity and comfort, all the way to the end of the struggles. There were many options of support. They knew we would have hard times and came in the middle of the night when we needed that. They prepared us for things that we didn't even know we needed to be prepared for and it helped us not feel alone in caring for our loved one. Their kindness even when we were having rough times was stabilizing. All the different types of staff: nurses, doctors, physical care, phone staff, social worker, clergy, administration and more were professional and kind. They wanted to help, support, care and comfort us. Heartland Hospice staff made sure our loved one had what they needed.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. This hospice was absolutely horrible to work with. The aid that came to help with my mother was rude and very hateful. When having to call the afterhours phone line it took multiple calls to get my mom help. My mom was left in constant pain she never had any type of relief with her. Her last weekend being apart of this hospice was a complete nightmare. We had absolutely no support from any of the nursing staff other then to call 911 and have her taken to the hospital because they didnt want to help manage my moms pain they made her feel like she lied about how much pain she was in i was in. At one point the night nurse told me to stick other fentanyl patch on her which would have put her with three 100mcg patches on her without consluting the doctor on call. Once my mom was at the emergency room she was discharged from this hospice almost immediately with no care or concern about her. Thank the lord she was evaluated by another hospice doctor and was accepted by then. The new hospice were the true hero's. They were able to finally keep my mom comfortable for her last few weeks here on earth with us. PLEASE IF YOU WANT YOUR LOVED ONES TO BE CARED FOR LIKE FAMILY AND LEFT IN AGONIZING PAIN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PICK ANOTHER HOSPICE.

I am so thankful for the support of Heartland Hospice during my mom’s final days. The nursing staff, Chaplin, social worker, and call center all were caring and a great resource in our time of need. They all have been such a blessing for our family.

As an oncology nurse who has had both personal and professional experiences with Heartland Hospice, I cannot adequately express my gratitude for their services. From a professional prospective, Heartland staff is responsive and sensitive to patient and family needs. In my personal experience with family members under Heartland care, the staff and accommodations provided were a tremendous gift. Heartland Hospice allowed my family member to remain in control of her health care decisions and provided us with some of the best interdisciplinary medical staff during our time of need. We were supported, listened to and respected in their care. Heartland hospice and their wonderful care team gave us quality time at home with our loved ones and for that my family will forever be grateful.
