I’ve worked with Dr. Lane for a year in assisted living memory care and he’s fantastic with patients. He’s personable, gives his time, and even joins family days, events, and outings to connect with residents beyond their care plans.

My voice and concerns have been heard and I am glad that I was able to speak with Dr. Shoemaker and Dr. Melo who was able to offer solutions to my problems. They were very professional, caring and understanding. They listened to my concerns and explained the process of hospice thoroughly to me so I can have a better understanding of how it works and who to call when I need the help. I am grateful that I was able to speak with them and have a new start with a great team of skilled nurses and aides. I can breathe and I am at peace and I feel confident that everything for my father will be okay from here on out. I thank you both for listening and acting on my concerns. The staff are AMAZING and very caring. I am a healthcare professional the team exceeded my expectations for the care they provided for my mother. I am so grateful for her admitting nurse Vanessa, and her assigned nurse Arlene, and the Chaplin whose voice was angelic! Stacey the executive director was also a delight to work with. Again, I am so grateful for this outstanding team and highly recommend Hospice of Virginia to care for your loved one!!

Hospice Of Virginia was willing to pick up And care for my mother after she had been in the hospital with Covid. She is 97 years old, In memory care and in need of a lot of attention. Within 24 hours of speaking with a representative of Hospice Of Virginia, they had visited with my mother and evaluated her. A pastor representing their company came to visit her and I received three telephone calls from volunteers telling me if I needed any information to feel free to call their number 24 hours a day. Hospice Of Virginia has been very thorough in helping us to deal with my mother’s situation.

While some of the employees are pleasant, the doctor nor the nursing staff keep up with medications or prescription refills/prior authorization from the hospice doctor. What this means: you/your loved one WILL run out of vital medications, and the hospice physician will not answer the pharmacy requests. AND because this hospice only prescribes medication at 15 day intervals instead of 30 or 90 days, you'll be picking stuff up from the pharmacy almost daily. Your insurance will refuse certain meds because it will think you got 30 days' meds when you only got half that. While they don't pressure you to go off of your meds (and you're not required to) you'll miss many important doses. Another thing I would be aware of: if your loved one is receiving services in a facility, find out which supplies hospice is delivering, and how often. Your family member might be going without proper supplies, like diapers and bed pads. You should keep track of that. If the hospice patient is going for a brief respite stay, you may be told that the patient will go to a facility with good ratings--and that there's a contract with that facility for that stay--but at the last minute there will be a switcheroo and they will be sent to a facility with poor ratings. On a positive note, one of the CNAs is kind, as is the Chaplain. A hospice company is only as good as its employees. While this one isn't stellar, I don't know that it's any worse than any other. Just keep up with what your family member needs, and if the company doesn't provide it, you can report them to the state.
