Caregiver Job Description
Qualifications: Staff must be at least 18 years of age, with related experienced in a board and care environment for the elderly and have completed a High School education or GED equivalent. He or she must have the ability to communicate with residents in the facility as well as other staff and administrator. The staff shall be in good health, and physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks. The staff must be of good character, be caring and compassionate to the elderly and mentally ill and be able to obtain criminal record clearance. Staff must also have current physical exam and TB clearance or be able to obtain one. Staff must have current first aid training certification by the American Red Cross or other approved agency, or be able to obtain one. He or she must be able to keep the facility clean, sanitary, orderly and habitable. The staff must also be able to maintain fire safety rules in the facility. Specific duties and responsibilities: • Provides care and supervision to clients. • Assists residents with activities of daily living as necessary. • Conduct and facilitate residents' planned daily activities. For Kitchen Staff: • Cooks appropriately nutritious meals and serve them to residents. • Assists in the maintenance, management, and ordering of food supply. • Ensures the kitchen area and dining area are clean and sanitary. • Provides assistance and supervision to residents taking medications. • Assures that all medications are under lock and key. For Direct Care or Floor Staff: • Performs regular vacuuming and shampooing of carpets. • Cleans and disinfects toilet bowls, wash basins, and sinks daily. • Ensure resident rooms are clean and change beddings weekly and as needed. • Performs laundry duty. Collects dirty linens and clothing for washing, drying and appropriate storage. For All Staff: • Provide regular feedback and observations of changes in residents' physical, mental and emotional state to the administrator. • Completes regular visual inspection of the facility and reports and/or recommends repairs to the administrator. • Assures that hallways, entrances and exits are properly lit and free from obstacles. • Performs a general house cleaning as often as necessary. • Conducts routine checks of all fire extinguishers and maintains equipment in good working order. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrator/Licensee.
