*Full Time Direct Support Professional 1&2 MERCI is a private, nonprofit agency providing support to adults with developmental disabilities. MERCI offers community based curriculum programs. MERCI’s programs include day programs, after school programs, residential facilities and a discovery program for adults. JOB STATEMENT Provide support services for residents with disabilities. JOB DUTIES Will assist in ensuring consumer’s safety, dignity, and well-being as well as providing consumers with any required help in fulfilling their personal and private needs. Will foster positive relationships with MERCI Board of Directors, MERCI staff, consumers, as well as consumers’ families and/or care-providers, outside persons and/or agencies such as representatives from regional centers, licensing, local governments and the community at large. To assist in implementing accommodations for consumers requiring them. To assist in the successful inclusion process, backing away when appropriate. To complete all documentation required; to include incident reports, allocation records, consumer charting. To attend weekly staff meetings, in-services and trainings. To direct/ work with other MERCI Direct Support staff and volunteers. To develop positive relationships with consumers as well as persons/ agencies including parent/ care-providers and Client Program Coordinators (CPC’s). To perform all other duties as assigned. JOB QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or equivalent. Must have the ability to complete 70-hour direct support professional courses and successfully pass both tests. If completed must provide both DSP I & DSP II certificates upon hire. (Challenge course certificates will not be accepted). Have a minimum of six months of prior experience providing direct care and special services to the developmental disability population. Ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral English communication. Bilingual preferred (especially Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish) to include oral and written communication. Current First Aid/ CPR certification. Ability to perform some lifting, up to 70 pounds per person. Must pass a health screening, including a TB test clearance. Must pass a Criminal Record clearance, to including fingerprinting. Current California Driver’s License and provide proof of insurance. Must be able to pass Organization driver behind the wheel proficiency test. Must be able to drive consumer’s in organizations vehicles to outings in the community. (Please note if you possess a California driver’s license you will placed in the DMV pull system). Ability to complete and pass the organizations hands on and written medication test. (Prior to becoming DSPII).
