My mother's stay at Highland January 28, 2025- May 1, 2025 didn't go as we thought it would. First, my mom was sent to Highland from a nearby hospital on a Friday evening; we get there and Highland wasn't aware of her coming. So, they scrambled around and did the intake information, and other necessary things. We then had to wait for a room to be made ready. My mother was placed in a wheel chair that didn't have footrest and they couldn't find them. She needed the footrest because one of her feet had an amputation of big toe and the footrest would have provided needed support. If only we knew things would worsen for our mother over time. I came to visit one afternoon and found my mother in her bed that was urine saturated without a diaper. When asked what happened my mother told me the NA started changing her diaper, night before but left to get something and never returned; nor would anyone answer at nurses station. Please tell me why no-one came to check on my mother in a twelve hour period---no reason for this to have happened. Her reason for being at Highland was due to her wound; Highland has a special nurse for this type of care and she's called Wound Care Nurse. On another visit my mom's foot which should always be wrapped to prevent infection was completely uncovered. I brought the foot coverage situation to a nurse attention and it was handled swiftly. The NA, some, never knew what the other shift had done in the care of my mother; seemed unaware of what took place before their shifts. Even the Social Worker was incompetent of doing her job effectively; she started off good but quickly didn't do her job well. I could go on and on with complaint's against Highland but it would fall on deaf ears. I am hoping someone who cares, reads this, and has COMPASSION on folks left in their care. Treat patients with kindness and respect at all times. My family and I certainly respected the staff entire time our mother was in the facility in spite of poor service. We appreciate those who did their job and applaud them, but those who didn't do their job please quit and go into another profession that you like. Highland should get closed down and start anew with caring staff that are monitored to see that their job is being done satisfactorily. Never would I recommend Highland for any type of care unless their company has a big change with care/staff. Thanks.

These people never answer the phone. I have never in my life dealt with any type of business, let alone one that has people loved ones in their care that never answers the phone. This is literally morning noon and night. We are filing a complaint with the state because this level of negligence can not be dismissed. We have called 22 times over the last week with no answer. If give them negative stars if I could.

Highland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Kansas City, MO, exceeded all my expectations, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking top-tier care. From the warm welcome at the front door to the spotless, inviting facility, it felt like a true home away from home. The care team was phenomenal—licensed nurses and therapists were not only skilled but also deeply compassionate. They crafted a personalized rehab plan with physical and occupational therapy that led to remarkable progress. The 24-hour skilled nursing gave us confidence that support was always there when needed. Beyond medical care, the staff’s creativity shone through in the engaging activities—fitness classes, social events, and even a lighthearted chat about juicers with the leadership team that brought a smile to our faces.
