WELLBROOKE OF KOKOMO

Not enough nursing staff. Van driver was running late to take my Aunt to a doctors appointment. I asked for help when I got my Aunt back from ER from her falling to get back to her room and nobody showed up. They put a stained sheet on my Aunt’s bed. I made the bed myself several times so she could get in it. I could go on and on.

We recently had a family member who had short term stay at Wellbrooke Kokomo while recovering and doing PT/OT and this facility was incredible. We were impressed by the level of service received; from the nurses to the custodial staff, everyone was so accommodating and kind. The staff even went above and beyond to work with insurance to ensure coverage and kept in communication regarding any challenges with insurance. This was a huge relief as this situation was stressful enough; and dealing with insurance would have added so much more to our already full plates. We were also impressed by the quality of the meals provided and the activities offered. There was never a lack of things to do there! Wellbrooke of Kokomo is a top notch facility and we would highly recommend it. These healthcare workers do not get enough credit or recognition for the work they do, the challenges they face, and the ever growing shortage of healthcare employees.

A patient coming in for help with balance before going home from the hospital shouldn't end up in worse condition while under the "care" of a facility. The staff acts annoyed at any requests. Call lights aren't answered in a timely manner. So many issues that I won't go into detail about publicly. I regret that my mom was sent here for her rehabilitation. Their good reviews are mostly posted by employees.

When I think of Wellbrooke, I think of being safe and protected and cared for. Not only that, but it’s important to still have your dignity and your individuality and those are both things Wellbrooke prioritizes for you. I truly love everybody in the building and consider them my “Wellbrooke family”.

So strange how two places in the same town can be owned by the same corporation and be so vastly different. Admittedly, at first, there was some issues with staff. I admit to being demanding about the care my father receives; but he is my father, and I will advocate for him no matter what. The difference between Wellbrooke and the other place in town (also starts with a 'W') is that the staff treated my father respectfully, my mother with kindness, and never cussed at me. My dad enjoyed going to the dining room. He made friends. He was social. Lively. Just night and day from that other facility where he laid in bed all day and slept. He was so isolated and 'down'. Wellbrooke has been so much better for him.
