AVANTARA PALOS HEIGHTS

My dad was at the facility for short term rehab. Therapy did a great job building his strenght to go back home. Nurses and cna's did a great job. Special thank you to Ivet for being such a kind, helpful and understanding person! Plus side is building smells clean as soon as you walk in.

Ms. Rainey, Social Service was kind, respectful, and clearly takes pride in her work. She consistently demonstrated a high level of professionalism and maintained efficient communication, and diligent follow-up on patients that was referred to our home health to ensures the right care is delivered smoothly and promptly. She has excellent skills and compassionate ,most important she cares about the patients and family to ensures they will be connected to the right resources.

TheTherapy department was very good. And my nurses, Halla and Lisa were wonderful The administrator was very friendly And helpful. And also The Director of Nursing. was very helpful. And also, don't forget our 1st floor manager She was very helpful.

My mom was recently a client at Avantara Palos Heights. She arrived very weak and skinny after having stomach surgery. She left very strong and encouraged. The staff is very helpful and supportive. I want to thank the entire staff for all you do!

I was not impressed at all by the services rendered at Avantara of Palos Heights, Illinois. Being a nurse myself, I expected more from the staff. From entering the building, I was not greeted by the receptionist, other than a quick "you must sign in". Upon entering the floor that my dad was a patient on, not one person looked up from their computer or phone to offer a smile or a kind hello. My dad's IV pump beeped for about 15 minutes, and would have continued had I not shut it off. I went out to the desk to remind the staff that the IV antibiotics were done and the PICC line needed to be flushed. I was told that they would alert the nurse. She came in after 1 1/2 hours, did not say one thing, flushed the PICC line and left. Additionally, the bathroom was not cleaned from the previous patient and when I alerted the staff, all they said was, "well housekeeping was here, I can't believe they didn't clean the bathroom. That staff member did bring in clean washcloths and towels and removed the tripping hazard of the previous patient's towels that were thrown on the floor by the sink and toilet. Meanwhile, the toilet and sink full of shaving debris remained. When I returned the next day, that same bathroom was still not cleaned. I had to ask the staff for my dads lunch as it was not delivered. That staff member ended up giving my dad someone else's tray, and said, well, he was discharged, so you can have his. YUCK! My dad was in rehab for IV antibiotics and easily could have gotten septic due to the lack of a clean room and no hand sanitizer available. My dad, who is hard of hearing and 94 should not have been cared for in such a poor manner. He was never addressed by his name. There was absolutely no empathy shown to him. The guests of patients should not be treated poorly either. Manners are important, common courtesy expected, especially when caring for others. Having done bedside nursing for 46 years, I truly expected more. Where has genuine kindness and the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" gone? Any managers or JCAHO reading this? I sure hope so!
