Dad was unhappy the first week he was in the facility, but then he started to enjoy it. He seems very happy after just a couple of months. The staff are very attentive to his needs and are so nice. They seem to care about the veterans. The administration always has things planned for them, which include family as well. Our family feels that we made the right choice in placing dad here.

The NC State Veterans Home - Salisbury and PruittHealth have a program called Restorative Dining. This program functions outside of the normal rehab program that is often used in conjunction with Medicare Services. The Restorative Dining program bridges a gap for residents who need help but are no longer eligible for physical therapy. Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA’s) Rosie, Karen, & Alyssa help residents with eating their meals through encouragement, praise, teaching them how to use their utensils, and assisting them. This program is a true blessing to have for our loved ones who can no longer eat on their own. I have watched these CNA’s working diligently with the residents and seen great results. Also, they work with them to do restorative exercises. Thanks to the professionalism, dedication & kindness your loved one is well taken care of. The nursing staff are very professional. They will inform you of changes to a resident regarding medicines or other issues that may arise. The CNA’s encourage the residents to be up in their chairs each day if they can and assist with all daily requirements for residents even when it seems like an impossible task. I am very thankful to them for their service. The Dietary department provides good healthy food, ample amounts, and snacks each day. Tonya will try to find the resident when they are not in their rooms to make sure they have a snack if they want one. Keep up the great work. The Recreation Program staff are great at encouraging residents to participate in various activities. The staff will bring residents to the activity room who want to participate in the activity. The staff shows them kindness by talking, encouraging and greeting them by name. The Transportation staff has a program that allows the residents who have benefits with the US Dept of Veterans Affairs to be taken to the location to use those benefits. This is a great service for the veterans in the North Carolina State Veterans Home so they can use the benefits they deserve. The staff is very encouraging and caring.. Keep up the GREAT WORK! - Donna Overcash

We have a dear friend that is getting the best of care here. It’s so reassuring to witness the level of respect and honor to all the residents that stood for our freedom. The staff are so attentive to his needs and are quick to help us with any questions along this journey.

We got our 91 year old dad to this facility after being in a memory care facility, the hospital and two rehabs. Our expectations were not high because of our prior experiences at the other places. From our first interaction with NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury, we were extremely pleased. From the smiling faces that always greet us at reception, to the nurses, CNAs, and all the staff, we always feel seen, heard, and our needs addressed. If there is a problem (as there will be), the communication and effort to get it resolved is there. Most of the staff goes above and beyond what is expected. There is kindness and an overall feeling that our dad is being well-cared for, which is such a relief! Also, this facility is so clean! No urine smell, no soiled clothing laying around, just clean! I am grateful that we got our dad here and so appreciative to the staff for the care they take of all the residents.
