WELLBROOKE OF SOUTH BEND

Staff are fantastic. Everyone from nurses, therapy, food service to housekeeping are always friendly and positive. I am going home today with everything I hoped for, physically. My stay was only seven days but I am grateful that I am so much better after such a short stay. Special kudos to Jasper (4 legged staff) for bringing a smile to my face.

My sister, my Uncle, and I take turns coming there to make sure my mother's being taken care of like she's supposed to be. One thing I have a hard time with is hygiene care. Numerous times that I've gone there. My mother's nails are dirty underneath the nail.polish. Or she isn't showered. She has to wait a long time to go to the bathroom. As she needs assistance. And even if we call there at night to ask them to make sure to put her hearing aids on the charger, quite often, It's not done, so in the morning without her hearing aids, she can't hear. So who knows how long she's going before we get there. That must be horrible for her. I realize they're understaffed, but that's not my mom's fault. She shouldn't have to suffer for that. The last couple of times i've went there.Everybody's in a crabby mood. Patients are all sitting around the nurse's station, falling asleep as if they are sedated. I will say the there's a chef named steven who is a saint. He really cares about the patients and it's consistent.

We had my grandmother at wellbrooke for almost a year after transitioning from assisted living to long term care. It was a big transition for her but the team at wellbrooke made it so much easier.Unfortunately we recently lost her and the team there was beyond incredible. They felt like family and during her last few days staff was with her every minute when family was not there. They all told us stories of her and how she was so special to them. I can’t say enough about this facility and the staff there!

My father stayed here on three separate occasions and we were very impressed. The facility is very clean. The nurses are wonderful and create personal relationships. The rehab worked hard with my dad to improve his mobility. Wellbrooke offers themed dinners and nights to keep it’s residents occupied.

My mother was placed there by me for rehab after a lengthy illness. This facility came highly recommended by hospital staff. We were not impressed, sure the facility is beautiful, but just like any other nursing home, staff is short, care for the patient is lacking. My mom had a ton of co-morbities, but she was able to walk when she first arrived. She would put on her call light to be taken to the bathroom, and sometimes they took quite awhile to answer, so they stuck in her in a depends, since no one could get her into the bathroom in a timely basis. She also had not been eating properly at home. We thought speaking to the dietician would solve some of the issues we were having, such as arriving cold every day, every meal, the food is brought in daily, so when they say fresh from scratch, it isn’t, also in her condition she did have some restrictions, but these requests fell on deaf ears. She continued to get things she could not eat, so she lived off the items I brought from home. She also developed a bladder infection , it was treated properly the first time; according to reports; however during the last week she was there, she developed another infection and had to be taken to the hospital, from this infection it turned her body sepsis and she died, from sitting in her own waste for hours. I wish I could have done better by her, by choosing a different facility.
