The Waters on 50th
The Waters on 50th
The Waters on 50th is a licensed housing with services located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Minnesota Housing with Services establishments are registered establishments that provide or arrange for supportive or healthcare services. This is separate from but often combined with Assisted Living facility licensure.
Services may include assistance with daily living activities, medication management, health monitoring, meals, housekeeping, personal care, and coordination of healthcare services. The specific services are determined by individual service agreements.
Who We Serve: Housing with Services serves adults who need varying levels of assistance and wish to receive services in their own apartment or living unit rather than in a traditional care facility.
Licensing: Registered with the Minnesota Department of Health under Minnesota Statutes, section 144D.
Payment Options: In Minnesota, Medicaid may help pay for assisted living through the Elderly Waiver (EW). Eligibility is based on both financial and functional criteria. Contact Minnesota Department of Human Services or visit https://mn.gov/dhs/people-we-serve/seniors/services/ to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply. Wait lists are common for waiver programs, so applying early is recommended.
Families researching assisted living options should verify the facility's current license status, review any inspection reports, and schedule a visit to assess whether the environment and services meet their loved one's needs. For more information about assisted living regulations in Minnesota, visit Minnesota Department of Health.
Licensing requirements and regulations may change. We recommend verifying current requirements directly with your state's licensing agency.

My dad chose to move to The Waters about a year and a half ago. His experience here has been really good. All of the staff members here are engaged and genuinely care about the residents. The building is bright and cheerful. Dad likes the food and especially likes that residents often wave each other over to their tables to eat together. New people seem to be welcomed readily by both staff and residents. We are in the process of transitioning Dad over to their memory care side. The staff has been incredibly compassionate, informative and helpful as we navigate this. We are so grateful that he chose this place to live.
I love it here!! All the staff are friendly and courteous and love to smile I’m totally at home!! Thank you for all you do and your kindness toward Ruthie. With Gratitude Alice Nixon
The Waters on 50th Street is a wonderful place to be! The staff is caring and friendly. There are positive vibes here. The activities are interesting and entertaining. We go to plays, concerts, parks and bus tours. There are shopping areas close by as well as parks and lakes. My husband and I fell in love with the atmosphere of the Waters on 50th the first time we saw it. We have not been disappointed. We are happy here.
My Dad has only been at The Waters on 50th for one week and we have already seen many positive changes in him. He is already known and loved by the staff, who make it a priority to find out his favorite foods, tv shows, interests and topics of conversation. It's so refreshing to have found a care facility that is adequately staffed by amazing people who clearly love their jobs! Unlike his previous care facility, my Dad's care plan has been implemented flawlessly. I cannot say enough good things about The Waters experience so far: Tour, Admissions, nursing evaluation, move-in, environmental services, dining services, activities coordination and caregivers. We are grateful for this special place!
This is an incredibly hard review to write because 98% of the staff at The Waters are FANTASTIC. However, there is a WIDE gap between the fantastic and the bad. The bad ones clearly aren’t going anywhere so it’s especially important to be an advocate for your loved one. Keep an eye on everything and be vocal about even the faintest red flag. If your loved one is in Specialty Care, multiple cameras in their space are a MUST. Question everything, don’t take their word on anything without your own research, and remember that this is a for-profit organization. Follow the money. Reviews for The Waters can be misleading because resident and family experience differ between Senior Living and Specialty Care. In my experience with both, things can go south FAST the second someone needs additional care or assistance. A Senior Living resident that requires little assistance can thrive whereas someone in Specialty Care can very quickly decline. Consider the Specialty Care environment. Direct care staff could make more working fast food while residents pay a small fortune. There are very few people with advanced clinical training on staff. Staffing ratios are usually at the very-low State minimum, leaving well-intended staff stretched thin and residents with advanced disease states unattended. Residents have been able to get out of the locked Specialty Care unit and the building, consume Purell, and become physical with other residents, staff and emergency personnel. As for the location in general, there have been many staffing changes. Not for the better. There are cleanliness issues, and the food service leaves a lot to be desired. Administration appears to be inexperienced and in over their heads, perhaps well-intended but still self-protective. PLEASE check out Elder Voice Advocates before you place a loved one in any kind of facility. They are a source of invaluable information and understand the situation you are in. I get absolutely nothing from directing you to contact them, other than the hope that I have saved you from a heart-wrenching situation.
