I visited many facilities in the area to make sure I picked the right one for my dad. The sales team really knew how to pitch it! To make the family feel comfortable and confident that the team had your loved one’s best interests at heart. The food looked good, activities were well thought out, and great accommodations! The best part was that there was plenty of staff to monitor and assist the residents. There was nursing staff was 24/7…SOLD!! I move my dad in and get him all settled. I say good bye and watch him walk down the hall to go to dinner. I get a FRANTIC call a hour and half later from the med tech saying my dad fell face first into a wall and is bleeding profusely and that the EMTs are on their way to transport to the hospital. The med tech was so under qualified to handle the situation because she was panicked. The EMT had to call me asking for his medical history because of all the blood. The facility had not yet processed all of my dad’s medical records into their system so they had nothing to give the EMTs. My dad was diagnosed with having a brain bleed and ended up DYING. The director blamed my dad, the Alzheimer’s patient for hitting his head, trying to leave the floor. Fun fact: my dad was lying one floor for over 10 minutes before anyone found him. There was only one aide and one med tech for the ENTIRE facility. Fun fact: the facility lied about what time they give out sleeping medications and what time they put residents to bed. I could go on and on about the neglect, carelessness and stupidity about this facility and it’s management but it won’t change the fact that people will still put their loved ones in this serveral billion dollar profited company. Do your research, reach out to hospice specialists about other options before sending your loved one to an early grave.
My Wife, Marilyn, was a guest at Brookdale, Oakwell for almost 3 months! Not only is it a beautiful place, it is probably the best memory care facility in the city. The staff was so good and so kind and just wonderful no matter what time I visited. They were comforting, not only to Marilyn, but also to me. The food was even excellent!
Having visited at least 10 different facilities, we choose Oakwell as it is the best one and after being there for over a year, we are so glad we made this decision.
I would like to share my experiences, at Oakwell , Brookdale. The staff, is very knowledgeable and professional. I commend them for being so Attentive, in keeping the place very clean and adhering to the schedules’ as best as possible. Stephanie, director, is always quick to correct any concerns I may have And addresses any perceived problems right away. The staff, ie, Grace Gutierrez, program Coordinator, is exceptional. As well as Christine, Caroline, Mariana and America . Some others as well, but I still don’t know all the names. I am very happy with the care that , Nancy Caridi has received. I look forward that this level of care continues. Thank you, to All,
My brother moved into Brookdale Oakwell several months ago when he could no longer live on his own. He moved in there kicking and screaming. In no time he relaxed and began to fit right in. The staff at Brookdale are so warm and loving. They treat him like family and now he says, "I love this place". I have peace of mind knowing he is in their care. UPDATE: Things did not remain the same. Due to an unqualified director, things went downhill. Although my brother remained happy Covid spread through the facility as did bed bugs. The director continued to stay in his office most of the time, come in late, take long lunches and failed to interact with the residents. The employees were great but were frustrated because they got no leadership from the director. I ended up moving my brother out.
