The pictures I've shared here are the decline of my mothers health under the lack of care and attention provided at Cedar Cove Assisted Living in Wilmington, NC. We felt my mother was fortunate to find a space at Cedar Cove when she did and we were very happy with the lady in charge there but shortly after my mother moved in the lady in charge quit and the pandemic hit. We never even got to see her room until months later. They squeezed my mother, who uses a walker and has balance issues, into a one bedroom room with another resident who was very mobile and left her belongings all over the floor. There wasn't room for two single beds so the other resident slept in a recliner and had crammed wall to wall furniture into this already tiny space. There wasn't even room for my moms toothbrush in the shared bathroom. My mom started falling down on a regular basis. Cedar Cove would send her to the ER to get checked and sometimes they'd call one of us to let us know but after a while they stopped doing that. Meanwhile my mother was having horrific falls twice and sometimes more a week. Her ankles were so swollen she could hardly stand on them anymore and I found out they wouldn't let her leave her room! She spent days sitting in her bed without even a chair to sit in and no one on the staff cared to get her to exercise. I finally got to go inside the facility and saw her living conditions. She was still in bed and unwashed at 10:30am lying in blood stained sheets. Her bedding was soured and looked like it hadn't been laundered since she moved in months before. It broke my heart. This place was going to kill her if we didn't get her out of it. No one there knows the facility's WiFi password and they don't seem to know when management is even in the building. The overall attitude from staff is contempt if you ask too many questions or if you simply ask them for assistance of any kind. I received numerous frustrated responses from staff even though I was treading as gently as I could because I didn't want them to take it out on my mama when I left. We were able to move my mama out of this facility to a much safer and loving place and she is now thriving! It's been two months and she's only fallen once! That is enough evidence for me to know the problems are all Cedar Cove's problems and not my mother's. In response to what myself and other family members and friends witnessed at Cedar Cove I did contact the facility manager, Shelby. I also contacted their parent company and spoke in depth with the North Carolina State Board that handles complaints against facilities of this nature for advice. My mother continued to be neglected so our only option was to move her. It is my opinion this is a dangerous place for the elderly and infirm. I do not recommend it.

I'm impressed by the new administrator in the Cedar Cove facility. Things are changing daily. I was visiting and took a tour of the building. Lots of good things coming. I had a great laugh with some of the residents. There faces lit up with the holiday decorations that were put up. Happy Holidays to all and Good Luck Cedar Grove. Looking forward to visiting to see the updated improvements.

I decided to revisit this facility and found tremendous improvements compared to my previous visit almost a year ago. The staff was very receptive and the main lobby was clean and pleasant. I recommend you consider checking out Cedar Cove should you be exploring assisted living for a loved one.

Visited the facility and participated in some holiday singing for the residents. This was coordinated by the administrator who also participated in bringing some holiday cheer to the residents. So many were singing along and really seemed to enjoy us being there. The facility was decorated so nicely.

The place is no place for Residents. The staff are mean to the residents constantly. they ignore the residents. Residents somehow always end up bruised badly in their face and the staff only excuse is always their falling. The managers are NOT PROFESSIONAL at all. The places is FULL of drama. you would think they are there to help the residents it’s so much kiddy drama with the staff. Their always arguing and yelling at each other in front of residents , the building smells like weed alot. The “Director” Belinda & the “memory care manager” Evette just got arrested from cedar cove last week. that is a completely unprofessional facility they argue with residents family members & always always always have state in the building from DSS complaints against them. They never chart in their books , their always outside smoking & spending time off the unit the place is completely unorganized. This is NO PLACE i will ever allow my loved ones to live….
