Ambercare

Ambercare is a Medicare-certified hospice provider serving Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico and surrounding areas. A Medicare-certified hospice provides comfort care and support services to patients with terminal illnesses and their families. Hospice care focuses on quality of life rather than curative treatment.

Hospice care is available to patients whose physician certifies they have a terminal illness with a life expectancy of six months or less if the illness runs its normal course. Patients may receive hospice care at home, in a hospice facility, nursing home, or hospital.

Medicare-certified hospices must provide all four levels of hospice care: routine home care, continuous home care for periods of crisis, general inpatient care for symptom management, and inpatient respite care to give caregivers a break. Care is provided by an interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, social workers, chaplains, and trained volunteers.

I’ve been using Ambercare for a few months, but before that my mother had Ambercare for an ileostomy. I have nothing good to say about them. They regularly ignore requests for supplies, they have always done this. They lied to my insurance about ordering the supplies I needed, I need 4x4 surgical sponges and I’ve been asking for 3 weeks now. They are always loosing staff and over booking the remaining people to the point that patients are not being seen. And the absolute worst part is they know we are limited in choosing care in this area and they take advantage of it. They’ve retaliated against patients in the past by ousting them from their care after said patients have simply asked for supplies that Ambercare is required to get their patients when they take them on! They were pulling this nonsense with not getting people their supplies back when my mom was getting their care and now I’m convinced they wait for people to get comfortable then start refusing to get them supplies. Everything was fine for the first month then all of a sudden it’s been three weeks and no supplies. I also asked not to have one of the nurses for my care because when he “cared” for my mother he never called and scheduled to come help her. I have a chronic leg wound that can’t be left without a change and found out on Monday that nurse had taken over my care. He called late in the afternoon, after I had called my former nurse asking when he’d be there for wound dressing change. That’s when I learned he wouldn’t show up till Tuesday which was a day later than I needed changing! My wound care team has been faxing updated info about my care to their office and they never tell these nurses. I ended up informing him when my change days are (non negotiable, this is chronic wound care, every change has to happen when it happens to avoid the wound getting worse). He is supposed to call me tomorrow to get me scheduled for Friday. I’m fed up, I know damn well even if he calls me he won’t show up, he did this to my mother before too, it’s why I requested the other nurse! My advice if you end up using Ambercare? Like you have no other choice and stuff? Fight for yourself! Call your insurance when they don’t deliver your supplies, they have to deliver everything to your house directly, they are required to get you those supplies as long as you are a patient with them! Your insurance is paying them to get those items, if they aren’t getting you your supplies they are in breach of contract. Stay safe out there! Take no bull! Make Ambercare regret they didn’t give you the care you need!

My father was diagnosed with terminal cancer less than four months ago. I reached out 2 to 3 weeks ago to Ambercare. We were introduced to Susan. Words fail me at this time to sincerely express our heartfelt and professional feelings and emotions towards Susan. I will say this, this lady/nurse/professional is and was a godsend! She is beyond wonderful and professional. We were blessed to have her! God bless Susan and my awesome late father. JM

Hospice care offered by Ambercare has been very compassionate, coupled with a high degree of knowledge regarding my husband's and our family needs during this difficult time. I will definitely recommend Ambercare Hospice to others with a similar need.
