My husband and I moved from a house of 50 years in a beautiful rural area of NJ. While we had family near the Jefferson (J), we were nervous about moving to a condominium setting. Our fears were groundless. We loved it from day 1. The people here in independent living are interesting, warm and welcoming; the building is comfortable; the staff go out of their way to be helpful; and the J is pet-friendly. The J provides bus transport to museums, plays, and concerts, and the concierge is most helpful getting tickets when needed. There are many events, exercise classes, language groups, in-house concerts, art classes, interest groups, and more. It is hard to be bored. The area is also wonderful: close to the metro, close to beautiful parks, and Arlington is great about keeping this high-rise area green and beautiful. I have used the physical therapy here and it was more than satisfactory. What more could we ask for in an independent living setting?
The Jefferson is Arlington's best kept secret. I would and have recommended the community to my senior friends and family. Our fellow residents are kind, interesting, and wonderful neighbors. The activities are plentiful generous and tons of fun. Food is delicious and nutritious. We feel like we're on a cruise every day.
I would not recommend this facility as they are understaffed, and not responsive to the loved ones. My 85 plus year old Aunt was in their “care”, and we could not reach her for almost a week until my cousin physically went to check up on my Aunt. My 85 year old Aunt had her cell phone with her, but someone “helped her”, either lower the ringer or put it on mute so that she could not hear the ring and answer our phone calls. My 85 year old Aunt is not a Techie! Calling the operator or the nurse’s station was a nightmare! If we were lucky to get through then they would take the messages, but no call back or follow up, even though they promised each time. The whole family was so relieved when my cousin was able to go and physically meet my Aunt, and confirm that she was alright, even though she had lost weight.
My brother in law recently moved to Assisted Living and the team at the Jefferson was fabulous during the planning process and has been consistently attentive and responsive these past few months. We visit from out of state and love the location as well as the facility itself. It was the perfect choice.
The absolute worst medical rehabilitation facility that my mother has stayed in. One front desk person refused to give me the phone number to the landline in her room saying that was private personal patient information! As I was out of state at the time, I then asked if someone could call me back to confirm that my mother was alive and no one ever did. Very complicated forms for requesting items the patients want from complicated daily menus, which my mother didn't understand and once for a meal they provided her with some lettuce and a small dessert stating well that's what she had requested on the form; nobody there cares about the patients’ diets. My mother was supposed to be there to gain weight and instead they confirmed that she had lost weight since her arrival. They didn't give the form to request her medical records to her until the 30th day she had been there, the day of her discharge; Kaleb Campbell, a supervisor, tried to pressure me into signing a form that I had received the medical records nevertheless. Who knows if we will ever receive the medical records? They stated that they wanted to take a survey and gave a phone number which automatically disconnects after a number of rings! I could go on and on about the mishaps, including the fact that upon her arrival I was told that she would get a shower every Monday and Thursday and at least three of those dates that I know of she was not given a shower whatsoever. PS - a week ago I received the below response; I immediately contacted the Sunrise Team but even though they stated that wanted "to promptly review and address these concerns" I have yet to hear from anyone, nor has my mother received her medical records, and CVS has not contacted her about having had her prescriptions transferred there. One other issue I didn't mention - they put my mother alone in a vehicle with a driver and no attendant, without telling me or her in advance that they had scheduled an appointment for her at the VHC. The driver called me from there, leaving me a message saying he had been told I would meet them there to help her to the office! No attendant had been sent with her, and I got the message too late, so thankfully he did not abuse her or abandon her, just took her back. When I discussed this with both Augustina and Jackie in the front office there, Jackie informed me that the staff had not properly recorded the outing!
