While there are many skilled nursing home facilities to choose from in the area, we knew that Otterbein in Monclova was superior to all. To the staff, the residents are more than just their patients. They treat them like family. The decision to place a loved one in a facility is difficult, however Otterbein made the transition easy and showed us how taken care of our loved one would be.
To all the staff at Otterbein, we are so thankful for the first class care you provided. You have shown a kindness and sincere care for our loved one in his final days that will never be forgotten. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for care for a family member. The facility is clean, inviting and administration will fight for the rights of the patients. The staff are very protective of their residents and will always do what’s in the best interest of the patient. We were especially grateful to Ashley, the facility administrator, who made sure our loved one had the best care possible!
If you are looking for a place for your loved one to feel like home, Otterbein in Monclova will be the perfect fit. You will be at ease knowing they will care for your loved one as their own.

On behalf of myself and all of my sisters, I want to acknowledge the wonderful care my father, Darryl “Stretch” received at Otterbein prior to his transfer to Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
The aides were always friendly and never seemed annoyed by letting us in and out of the facility each time we visited (which was frequent). They did a good job trying to engage our dad in getting out of his room and participating in community meals. Their routine checks on the residents, in our case, identified a medical need that we were unaware of and lead to seeking more advanced care than the facility was able to provide. We were grateful for their attentiveness and the protocols in place to guide decision making.
The home cooked meals looked and smelled amazing. I just wish dad’s appetite would have allowed him to enjoy and appreciate them more.
Thorough treatment plans were developed and carefully explained. Each staff member we encountered treated not just our father but also his family with dignity and respect.
We feel blessed that our father experienced such quality care prior to his passing.
Thank you Otterbein of Monclova for being a part of his story. May each of you know the impact you have on the lives of everyone you care for as you live out the purpose God equipped you for.

There’s no other place like Otterbein. We looked at other nursing homes and saw too many red flags: residents calling out for nurses from their rooms, lined up in wheelchairs in front of TVs, poor aide-to-patient ratios, shared rooms or bathrooms, terrible smells in the hallway, dark or depressing gathering areas, outdated decor.
When we toured Otterbein, though, I knew it was the place for my mother. Residents live in a group of “houses” and each house is beautiful: new decor, bright shared spaces, open main area centered around a modern kitchen (all food is home-cooked right there!) and recreation area. Residents have private rooms with their own bathroom. Beds and very nice furniture are provided, including a recliner that can lift a resident to their feet from a sitting position.
Residents are encouraged to personalize their rooms with shelves, photos, keepsakes, furniture pieces and personal bedding. They can take part in taking care of their own laundry in each house or receive help with that and cleaning.
The residents’ rooms are kept neat and the shared areas are spotless. Each house has a large, pretty fenced patio, there are pianos, field trips, cookouts, holiday celebrations, in-house concerts, church services, bingo, cardio drumming, crafts and even a hairdressing/barber station.
I call Otterbein “the nursing home of the future.” Not just for the amenities, but also for the individual care and respect the residents receive. Elder residents are family to the staff. No one exemplifies that more than Nurse Leslie. Leslie looks out for her residents like they were her own relatives, keeping track of what they need, working with families, thinking creatively, coming in on her days off, going above and beyond every day. You can tell she loves her job, her residents and her coworkers. When Leslie moved to a different “house” on the campus, we actually moved my mom to follow her!
I am always recommending Monclova Otterbein to my friends with family members who need rehab or nursing home care. It’s one of the best kept secrets in our area!
