Harmony at Elkhart

If I had the option for a zero start I would give that. Don’t let the beautiful facility fool you. We moved our mother in there on September 23 and she was there one week before she passed away. She had end stage kidney disease and dementia, she had also fallen back in August and broke her hip and pelvic bone and spent 21 days at a rehab facility and was still unable to get out of bed on her own. From the moment she got to Harmony we quickly regretted it. The first day she was there nobody helped her get out of her bed to use the restroom. My sister noticed how badly she smelled when she went visit the next day. She said her adult diaper weighed 3 lbs. They said it was a miscommunication with the nursing staff and it would not happen again. After seeing mom greatly decline in the week she was there and after speaking to a friend of mine who was a hospice nurse for 13 yrs, we as a family we decided to discontinue dialysis. Monday Sept 29th my sister and brother in law informed the Assistant Director that we were discontinuing dialysis. She said that we should not do that as it was a very painful way to die. We told her we did research and I spoken to a hospice nurse friend and she told us that in fact it can be a very peaceful way to pass, that she would just fall asleep and be kept comfortable with meds. We told her again that our wishes were to discontinue dialysis. The Assistant director said point blank to my sister and brother in law “we will ask her tomorrow if she wants to go to dialysis and if she says yes we will send her.” So they went against our wishes “asked” our mother with severe dementia if she wanted to go to dialysis and sent her to her treatment, 2 hrs later I got a frantic call from my sister that mom became unresponsive at the dialysis center, she was rushed to the ER. I rushed up there from Indianapolis praying the whole way up there that I would get to say goodbye to my mom. She died the next day. So please think twice before sending your loved one here.

This is a fantastic place to be if you need assisted living or memory care. I love being here. You are treated like you are part of a loving family. Thank you Harmony of Elkhart for being such a special place ❤️

Victoria Parker, was the person that we spoke with yesterday concerning our mother being a resident there at Harmony. She was very thorough very personable and just all-around the nicest lady ever. My name is David. I'm 83 years old and have lived with my Bride of 51 years, in a 2 bedroom, 2 bath Assisted Care apartment for 1 1/2 years here at "Harmony at Elkhart". My wife is wheelchair bound and deaf, with no balance. I am her primary care giver. Why HARMONY? 1. It's New (Smells wonderful: even in the elevators), It's spacious and offered us the amenities we were looking for such as: Three delicious meals a day always with two entree choices all available in a modern, classy, full service restaurant. 2. A sensitive Administrative, Medical, Dining, Life Enrichment and Physical Therapy staff, all in tune to our personal needs. 3. Room cleaning and clothes washing/drying twice a week or more if desired. 4. Daily and evening planned activities of which there is just no way we can't keep up. This includes professional theater entertainment, movies and weekly bus trips off site via the 16 passenger Harmony bus. 5. We are within 2 miles of churches and 5 miles of shopping, I'd like to say, "We've hit a BULLS EYE at Harmony" with Family serving Families, most of the time in great Harmony together. It was such a pleasure to perform live music at Harmony, Elkhart. Both the facilities and the staff created a wonderful experience at the Grand Opening. The residents and guests were enthusiastic about the music, enjoying their favorite jazz standards. Highly recommended.
