Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
§ Is visible and available to residents and aware of their location, including sign out status,
at all times.
§ Escorts residents through building.
§ Converses with residents to promote social interaction and provide emotional support.
§ Assists with personal hygiene and grooming (bathing, toileting, hair care, mouth care,
skin care, nail care, dressing and undressing).
§ Greets, seats, takes meal orders of residents entering the dining room.
§ Assists with set up and cleaning of dining area, i.e. setting tables, clearing and cleaning
tables, refilling condiments, wrapping silverware, preparing coffee/tea etc.
§ Serves meals, delivers meal trays to resident units, assists with meals and snacks as
necessary.
§ Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
§ Performs general housekeeping duties daily, i.e. making of bed, changing bed and bath
linens, hanging up clothes and cleaning apartments as scheduled.
§ Performs laundry duties as scheduled, i.e. washing, drying and folding laundry.
§ Assists residents with self-administration of prescribed and over-the counter medication
in accordance with medication guidelines and record resident’s self-administration of
medication appropriately. Maintains daily up-to-date medication observation record
(MOR) for each resident.
§ Follows Resident Functional Evaluation and Service Plan “RFE” for all assigned
residents per working shift.
§ Completes written reports and routine resident record reviews and updates as scheduled.
§ Documents and reports incidents, unusual occurrences, and observations of changes in
resident health or behavior timely and accurately.
§ Maintains confidentiality regarding residents’ personal and health information and
respect residents’ privacy. Adheres to the resident bill of rights as defined by State law.
§ Contains disruptive behavior to prevent injury to themselves and others.
§ Escorts residents to social activities and encourages participation.
§ Assists with implementation or coordination of planned activities as needed. May
accompany residents on outings.
§ Responds promptly and positively to resident requests for assistance, including
emergency calls and phone calls.
§ Responds to needs of families and visitors by providing immediate assistance.
§ Assists with resident move-ins and move-outs.
§ Demonstrates courteous, polite, professional attitude with residents, families, visitors and
co-workers.
§ Ensures safe work environment by following established guidelines regarding infection
control and safe practice and by reporting hazards.

§ Minimizes own health risk by performing duties in accordance with established
guidelines, i.e. using proper body mechanics when lifting and bending.
§ Follows designated plan of action in the event of fire or other emergency situation.
§ Performs all duties in accordance with company policy and procedures as well as federal
and/or state laws and regulations.
§ Attends required staff meetings and in-service training.
§ Performs other duties as assigned.
