Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Job Description

As a LPN you will be responsible for all resident care in the unit, including but not limited to giving medications, giving treatments, taking telephone orders from physicians.
Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse licensed in the state of Ohio. Possess leadership and strong communication skills.

Duties:
The Charge Nurse is responsible for the total nursing care of residents during his/her tour of duty.
Visit each resident in his/her area and make staff assignment in keeping with resident care plans.
Give medications and chart them, as well as charting other clinical records.
Count narcotics and maintain records of the same.
Counsel with physicians, residents, and their families and notify them when there has been a significant change in the resident’s condition.
Teach certain nursing procedures to nurse aides.
Communicate resident care needs to nurse aides.
Directs, supervises and supports nurse aide activities.
Make rounds to resident areas prior to beginning daily tasks and prior to going off duty.
Carries out treatment orders.
Documents acute status changes on care plans and nurses notes.
Writes nurse’s notes that reflect status changes and follow through resolution.
Keeps supervisor aware of the status of the unit.
Reports activities of the day to oncoming nurse.
Develops monthly comprehensive nurse’s notes that reflect movement towards care plan goals.
Develops nurse aide assignments and ensures timely updates.
Interacts with physicians and documents accordingly.
Request and post lab work.
Post physician orders.
Helps assist with new admission paperwork, attends in-service programs to update and maintain skills. Attends necessary in-services on fire safety, disaster plans, OSHA, MSDS, Blood borne Pathogens, and resident’s rights.
This position may also have the express duties of Care Planning and MDS completion.
Other duties as may be assigned by management.
