the Care here was fantastic. The staff was so caring for my mother in her final months. Her needs were all met and the compassion from this skilled team is unparalleled
My dad was sent for rehab for two weeks. His physical abilities improved only marginally during his stay. I requested a consultation with a nurse prior to his discharge and after three unreturned calls I finally received a call from a nurse after 5 pm the evening before his Saturday discharge. He was sent home with only one session of instruction chaging his Foley bag on Saturday morning and therefore struggled when he got home changing it resulting in a call to the facility for coaching over the phone and by sending photos. He was sent home with no extra bags after they were requested and if not for me waiting over 30 minutes with him waiting in the car for me we'd have gone home with nothing. He wasn't provided an overnight bag and that wasn't discovered until we got him home and unpacked. When we called to request the overnight bag a nurse said we could return and pick one up but when I arrived I was told they had none at the facility. The nurse who greeted me was rude and handed me a pile of supplies. When I asked what they were for she said my dad would know how to use them. When I demanded more information I was told he had been discharged and I'd had plenty of opportunity to ask questions prior to his discharge as I was escorted to the exit. No discharge information was provided, no information provided about his diet, no home health nurse refereal. It is no wonder his insurance company stopped paying for his stay at Hawthorne House. He has made more progress at home with the assistance of family. Given a choice, I would choose any place else but Hawthorne House.
I recently had a relative stay at this rehab center for about two weeks. When she was discharged, her PCP was horrified at her physical state, as she was in far worse shape than when she initially got there. Hawthorne house did everything but take care of her, including taking her off medications (that were very necessary to maintain adequate health) without consulting her doctor, not treating her for pneumonia for 5 days, and leaving her with an untreated staff infection. On top of this, her $2,500 brand new hearing aids were thrown away while an employee was “cleaning” her room. I am appalled by this facility and would not recommend it to anyone who wishes to receive adequate care.
As far as the care and the staff they are adequate unfortunately when a patient gets sent to the hospital they do not notify anyone this has happened several times and only got notified when my mother was at the hospital already due to the fact of them lacking to notify me and my siblings my mother passed alone at the hospital before we could get there
I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to this place! My sister was in there and never got a shower for a week after repeatedly asking for one. She was worse off when she left than when she went in from the hospital. No one follows through with anything they say they’re going to do. No sense ringing your bell they come when they’re ready. I witnessed it myself so it’s not hear say! Stay away from this place at all costs! Run down and dirty as well!!
