If there is any way possible not to send your loved one for care at this facility….don’t! The first day I visited my stepfather in this facility….I cried. First off walking in the building it looks very out dated and depressing….it only gets worse. The rooms are very small for two patients. Two rooms share a bathroom. If there are two patients in a room that means four people are sharing a bathroom. The bathroom was nasty and not working properly, bedspread old and very worn, room was not clean several days in a row. My stepfather was in there almost two weeks for physical therapy we counted the days for him to get out of this place of doom and glum. Most of the nursing staff and aides seemed to be over worked. My stepfather was in because his leg was amputated due to complications from diabetes. I raised concerns about the high carb meals. Once to one of the nurses and once to the nursing director. The response was basically the same by both…. in the nineties North Carolina passed a law that basically diets aren’t managed….they can eat whatever even with health conditions. The Nursing Director when I talked with her had no compassion and seemed to have a bully like mentality. She didn’t seem to care and gave me the analogy of her Dad being a diabetic and he could eat snickers bars and whatever in his home and this was the patients home so they could eat whatever regardless ( 1990’s law). She then proceeded to basically tell me if I was his medical care person I could get him a meal plan…what she didn’t bother to do was talk to my stepdad and see what he wanted! He had already expressed to several staff members his wishes for a low carb appropriate diet. Basically what I am getting at is she blew me off. I was going to go complain to admin but my stepdad ask me not to until he was released. He told me his insulin levels were high on several occasions. To the nurses and aides who do their best under rough circumstances…thank you. Hopefully, your Nursing Director will develop some compassion and possibly lend a helping hand one day. Also, Chief Admin you need to pay more attention to what is going on in your facility! On a brighter note my stepdad is home and receiving very great in home care!
Although my father was only at Grantsbrook for 5 days, all interactions I noticed with the staff were good. The facility is an older, tired looking one which initially deterred me however I found it to be clean. The assistants were kind, polite and hard working. My father liked the meals and the outdoor garden area. He was VERY alert mentally. Thank you to Mary Kay, Esther, Lateisha and Dolly who worked with my father and were helpful and gracious. I believe the caregivers were providing good service. Some facilities may look more modern but Grantsbrook seemed like a family atmosphere among the employees. My 3 star rating is for the physical facility (rooms and bathrooms) only. Not for the care.
Disgusting. As far as I'm concerned, hastened the decline of my grandmother. Allowed multiple sores to fester and then only contacted anyone after severe rot set in. Led to partial foot amputation. Gangrene doesn't spring up overnight. No precautions at all. Worst of all, never answered the phone. I called and left numerous messages. No response. I feel so terrible for the people whose relatives are here. But one can see from the reviews the general feeling towards this place. I'd pray for your souls if I thought you had any.
The staff at Grantsbrook were very helpful and it was a great place for your love ones to stay. I am grateful for all the service they did for Mom and our family. Thanks to all who took care of Mom.
This is a terrible place. They fed my father food he couldn't eat and it was cold. He said they never came when he called for them. Also, they moved him to a room to the back of the facility when they thought I had left down. The shared bathroom was so nasty that I ended up cleaning it myself. It still wrecked badly of urine after that. When I removed my father against the facility's wishes, they watched us struggle to get him into the car, refusing to help. After we got home, they called Adult Protective Services because my father left their neglectful facility. I also understand that this facility has a long term reputation in the community of neglecting and treating it's patients badly which is why they changed the name several years ago.
