This place is a complete joke especially the nursing department. I feel bad for the people who love ones are in the skill or assisted living buildings. The management staff does not care for any of the residents especially the DIRECTOR OF NURSING who doesn’t even care enough to engage or talk with her staff. They are always short staff which means your loved one is not being cared for properly. I have proof of unsafe conditions not only for the residents but also the employees. I know for a fact many of the residents have suffered so much until they basically just pass away. They claim to raise the residents rates due to employees raises which was a complete lie. They always in Covid-19 outbreak status cause they do not follow the CDC guidelines or even their own policies to safe guard the residents. State needs to investigate the assisted living in the North Building as well as the Garden Cottage cause they will definitely find a lot. The pictures explains the unsafe conditions that the residents and employees had to go through for several days. This was very unsafe especially for the residents. All these blowers of fans were so loud and caused a commotion which was not good for a dementia person. They do anything they can to cover up a lot just so the public will not be aware of what’s happening.
Disheartening Experience as the Husband of a Dedicated Employee: For five years, my wife poured her heart and soul into this company. Her dedication, hard work, and genuine passion for her role were evident in every task she undertook. As her husband, I witnessed firsthand the countless hours she devoted to her job, often going above and beyond to support her team's success and ensure client satisfaction. Unlike others who sometimes shirked responsibilities -calling out without valid reasons or avoiding tasks- my wife consistently stepped up to fill the gaps. Her professionalism, reliability, and exceptional attendance record were a testament to her commitment, surpassing even some within administrative leadership. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit - a time marked by fear and uncertainty - my wife willingly volunteered to work on the front lines. She prioritized the needs of the business over her own safety, ensuring the facility continued operations. For our family, sharing her with her demanding career was not always easy, especially when callouts and no-shows disrupted our plans. Yet, I stood by her, knowing how much her job meant to her. Tragically, her unwavering dedication was not met with the respect it deserved. The manner in which she was let go was abrupt and deeply disheartening. There was no communication, transparency or acknowledgement of her significant contributions. Instead, the termination came with a letter riddled with inaccuracies, avoiding an honest conversation altogether. This has left us questioning the organization's values and ethics. It's worth noting that termination was neither the only nor the best course of action. In an organization grappling with staffing shortages across departments, my wife's skills and experience could have been redirected to better serve the company. She initially volunteered for her role during a critical time and would have gladly accepted a demotion or a transfer to continue supporting the organization she cared about so deeply. The situation was exacerbated by troubling behavior from the newest administrator, whose actions cultivated hostility instead of professionalism. It's unfortunate when personal conflicts overshadow the dedication and efforts of employees like my wife. To Chip Cromartie, Chief Executive Officer of Penick Village, If you were unaware of the toxic actions of your management team, you are now fully informed. If you were aware yet chose to close your eyes to the reality, it is deeply disappointing to see an organization that promotes Christian values fail to embody them in practice. Decisions like this extend far beyond employees, affecting their families as well. I hope this serves as a moment of reflection and a call to change. Adding to this hardship, we are still waiting for my wife's unemployment benefits to be processed, as the case is now under appeal. While we cannot prove it, we strongly suspect that her termination and the inaccuracies in the termination letter played a role in delaying her access to these much-needed benefits. It's important to highlight the broader issues within your organization. High turnover rates, overworked staff, and a lack of retention strategies appear to be ongoing challenges. While my wife often spoke highly of her colleagues and the positive environment she believed in, this abrupt and insensitive decision has cast a long shadow over those sentiments. To Prospective Employees: Reflect on whether this organization aligns with your values. My wife's experience highlighted concerns about respect and fairness for employees. Be sure to ask questions, seek transparency, and get agreements in writing before committing. To Families Considering This Facility: While many staff members show genuine care and dedication, management decisions raise concerns about compassion and integrity. Be thorough in your research to ensure your loved ones receive the respect and care they deserve. This review honors my wifes dedication and sacrifices. It stands as a reminder of the impact of undervaluing true commitment.
In the past year April 2023 the change in administration and new Director of Nursing has improved the staffing and the resident care both in Assisting Living and Skilled Nursing. I will continue to support the hard working staff and the Penick Village administration with C Cromartie and his team doing a great job making everyone feeling like family.
My wife and I moved into Penick at exactly the right time, when we were 75. I have been a widower for 3 years, And I realize every day how fortunate we were and how lucky I am to be living a full life in Penick Village and so close to Weymouth and to Southern Pines.
A wonderful place with an excellent staff and accommodations. My dad, who will soon be 95, has been there almost 7 years. He had roots as deep as you could get them in Ohio before moving here after he lost mom and most of his close friends. I cannot say enough great things about Penick Village.
